Gestational Diabetes Recipes and Meal Ideas

Unknown | 05:36 | | Be the first to comment!
Approximately 5% of all pregnant women in the US develop Gestational diabetes. It is becoming more and more common these days as so many people have bad eating habits. Even younger women in their twenties can be diagnosed as having Gestational diabetes. There are many questions pregnant women want to know the answers to, such as what types of food is safe for them to eat.
Saturday breakfast by Larry & Teddy (nee Schlueter)
Well, the underlying problem that causes Gestational diabetes in the first place is poor eating habits. Anyone who eats too many bad sugar and carbohydrates is at a risk. Eliminating a lot of sugar and carb is hard for some people, but it must be done in order to help treat Gestational diabetes. The internet is filled with thousands of Gestational diabetes recipes that are easy to cook and prepare.
There are many ways to modify a certain recipe in order to meet an individual's personal dietary needs. It is possible for a woman with Gestational diabetes to eat healthy foods without sacrificing flavor. A sample diet plan is always a good place to get started, and there are many recipes that can be included with it.
Here are some Gestational diabetes recipes.
Breakfast
Everyone knows that breakfast is the most important meal, therefore making a good choice for a breakfast recipe is essential. It is okay, occasionally, to have one carbohydrate with a breakfast meal. Food that is high in protein is important, also.
Some good breakfast ideas include:
Slice of whole wheat toast with an egg
Small bowl of blueberries and a few almonds
Half a banana
A small amount of all natural peanut butter on a slice of whole wheat bread
Lunch
There are many simple Gestational diabetes recipes that do not take long at all to prepare. These are great choices for those who do not have all the time needed for putting together a lunch meal. It is best to stick with 45 grams of carbohydrates for a midday meal.
Some good lunch ideas include:
Bowl of fresh veggies
Turkey sandwich with whole wheat bread, lettuce, and tomato
Small piece of fruit
Boneless, skinless chicken breast (it can be prepared earlier in the day or the night before.)
Tuna
Dinner
Gestational diabetes recipes for dinner usually consist of foods high in protein, such as fish and steak. Both of these are free of carbohydrates.
A few carbohydrates can be allowed with the grilled chicken, salmon, or tuna, however. Some ideas include:
Small serving of pasta
Baked potato
Sugar free yogurt
1 cup of fruit
1 cup of steamed asparagus
Desserts and snacks
Desserts and snacks can be eaten in between meals.
Here is a mini-cheesecake recipe that is very easy to make:
1 Cup of water
Unflavored gelatin
16 ounces of softened and cubed cream cheese
1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
3/4 cup of a sugar substitute
2 tablespoons of instant sugar free pudding mix
Sprinkle the gelatin over the water and let it stand for two minutes.
Microwave the mixture for 40-50 seconds and then stir.
Let mixture stand for a couple of minutes.
Add cream cheese cubes and stir some more.
Put in mixer and blend well.
Add pudding mix, vanilla extract, and the sugar substitute.
Pour into either muffin tins or 8" pie pan.
Put into freezer until firm.

Simple and Easy Diabetic Recipes

Unknown | 05:23 | Be the first to comment!
Having diabetes does not have to take over your life, it just makes you healthier, it forces you to do the things you should be doing in the first place. Like eating vegetables, going to sleep on time and taking regular exercise.
Simple and easy diabetic recipes
When you were first diagnosed you may remember having seen a nutritionist who will have told you almost everything there is to know about getting a balanced diet, everything you will have learnt in health class many years ago. It is important to remember that discoveries about food and health are almost constantly being made and therefore it is necessary to see your nutritionist at least every three years, if not more. It is also recommended that you keep a food diary for two weeks per every six months. This way you can keep tabs on what you are actually eating, rather than what you think you are eating (and yes there is a big difference.)
There are a few tips that can be imparted to you, from me an 8-year, post teenage, insulin pump user diabetic. Throughout the years I have come to learn many things, but here are the most important things to remember about your diet, and if you stick to these you will notice a huge improvement in your overall health as well as your levels.
1. Cut down on carbohydrates. I cannot tell you just how much this will effect your health. If you make your meals mostly vegetables and proteins, and very little carbohydrates then your levels will not have enough chance to go too badly. This is also giving your body more essential nutrients and minerals that you can only get from more vegetables and essential proteins.
2. Start the day with oats. You have probably heard about the GI diet, if you have not then make sure that you find out more information, as many people have found this really helpful. Oats are a low GI way to start the day, this means that the energy from the oats will last you a long time instead of coming in one short burst. It also means you won't be as hungry throughout the day.
3. Cut out alcohol. Is it really worth it? Alcohol plays havoc with your systems, and for diabetics it really is not worth the hassle. Having one cocktail can make your levels go up really high because of the hidden sugar content, and then plummet because this is the alcohols effect. It really is not worth it, have just a glass of red wine or a diet coke or a water if you are going out.
4. Switch to dark chocolate. This will be a huge difference, not only are you feeding yourself dramatically less sugar, but also you are eating more anti-oxidants and nutrients which are present in higher cocoa content chocolate.
5. Cook from fresh. Then you know whats in it. Does one of those funny words on the pack mean a complex sugar? This increases your awareness of what you actually eat in prepared meals, and cooking it takes some great energy that will help keep your levels in check.
6. No white flour. White flour is very high GI, whereas wholemeal varieties (of anything, rice, pasta or bread) are a low to medium GI which is so much better for you. These varieties are usually the more natural varieties and sometimes organic which has added extra benefits.

Grandmas Triple Meat Spaghetti Sauce

Unknown | 19:50 | | | | | Be the first to comment!
diabetic recipesYou will need these ingredients:

9oz onions chopped
5 cloves garlic chopped
16oz contadina sauce
28oz contadina tomatoes
12oz contadina paste
2 tbs olive oil
4 tbs sugar
1 tbs salt
1 lb skinless chicken breasts cut into 1/3rds
1 lb cubed steak
1 lb lean hamburger
basil
parsley

  • First gather your ingredients, and chop your onions and garlic.
  • In a large stock pot, add your olive oil, and turn to medium heat.
  • next add garlic, and brown for 1-2 minutes.
  • then add your onion and mix and brown, stirring for a few minutes.
  • then add burger meat, stir and half brown for a few minutes.
  • then add the rest of your meat, stir for a few minutes, then cover and cook over medium heat stirring every few minutes.
  • While the meat is cooking, take the time to open all the cans of sauce.
  • After all the meat seems cooked (Could be 15-20 minutes), you’ll notice alot of liquid in the bottom of the pot. Strain all the meat by holding the lid of the pot so there is a slight crack, just big enough to let the liquid out… Tip the pot and drain.
  • Now add the contents of each can to the pot, and then fill each can HALF WAY with water. being sure to get the remaining sauces stuck to the sides. Add this “saucy water” to the pot as well.
  • Now add 4 tablespoons sugar, 1 tablespoon salt, and basil and parsley to taste.
  • Cover and cook, stirring occasionally on medium heat for 1/2 hour, then reduce heat to simmer covered for a MINIMUM 4 hours, stirring every 20 minutes so the bottom doesn’t burn.
  • The total calories of this pot come out to 3008, with 100 grams of fiber, and 207 grams of carbs.
  • I’d estimate there are 20 servings in this pot, which comes out to 150.7 calories, 5 grams fiber, and 10.35 grams carbs per serving. If you are going to use actual pasta, you will have to adjust that accordingly.. If you will be using YAM based shirataki noodles, then that will be your only caloric intake.
  • Now on to the noodles, rinse them…. then let them drain, then rinse them again. I’ll soak them in fresh water after the second rinse for a bit… then rinse again.
  • Boil water, and throw them in for 2-3 minutes. then drain, and add a serving of sauce. Then simmer in a covered pot on VERY low heat. The yam noodle will absorb the flavor of the sauce.
  • Add Parmesan cheese to taste

Diabetic Recipes
This sugar free oatmeal cookie recipe is full of ol fashioned oatmeal cookie ingredients. You can't have an oatmeal cookie without walnuts and raisins. That is for sure! The recipe calls for fruit sweetener. Fruit sweetener can only be found at health food stores and is a tad costly at 7 dollars. Fruit sweetener has a low glycemic index. Keep that in mind before you start this recipe! Also keep in mind that this sugarless oatmeal cookie recipe is not quick and easy! It takes some time to bake, but well worth the time.

Sugar Free Pumpkin Pie Recipe - Thankfully pumpkin pie is relatively easy to make. There are some who use real pumpkin instead of canned pumpkin! That takes dedication and lots and lots of time. There are ways to ensure that your pie comes out tasting better. For starters, always use a glass or dull-metal pie pan. Dark pans make the crust brown too much and throw away "metal" pans don't brown it enough. This recipe calls for a premaid pie crust, but be daring and make your own.
